Your tuition fees contribute to the success of Witten/Herdecke University. All students together account for 25% of the university budget. University and StudierendenGesellschaft (SG) specify tuition fees by mutual agreement. On average you pay the same, no matter which of the three payment options you choose.

Below you find, as an example, the contributions for the Philosophy, Politics & Economics Master valid for enrollment in winter semester 18/19 and summer semester 19.

Payment option 1: income-related payment

You do not pay tuition fees while studying at UW/H. As soon as you start earning a salary above a certain threshold, you will pay back a fixed percentage of your income agreed on in your contract with the SG. You repay over a contractually fixed period.

  • Those who earn little pay little; those who earn more pay more.
  • Currently, you are exempt from repayment if your decisive income is below EUR 21,000.
  • There is an upper limit to your repayments.
  • Study for as long as you like – your fees won’t change.

Payment option 2: fixed direct payment

You can also pay your tuition fees immediately. In this case
you pay a fixed monthly amount, which sums up to the average contributions made by those choosing the income-related repayment.
After the standard period of study you have paid your tuition fees, and there are no further obligations.

Payment option 2: later and direct payment by halves

  • The fixed monthly amount paid directly and the percentage for repayment after your studies are halved.
  • At the end of the standard period of study you will have payed half of the total fixed sum.
  • After graduation, as soon as you start earning a salary above a certain threshold, you will pay back a certain percentage of your income. This percentage is half the percentage you would have to pay in option 1.
